To Butterfly or To Not Butterfly?

Colin B

The butterfly kip, when done with proper technique and a good strength base, can lead to faster cycle times therefore decreasing your workout time. A number of competitive exercisers favor this method over most.

Tasty Tuesdays!

From Margaret:
I thought up this recipe when I was walking around Costco. It's spaghetti squash, shrimp, squeezed lemon, chili and cayenne pepper, cilantro, and home-made salsa.

Salsa recipe:

It's pretty simple and all you'll need is:
- a food processor
- large bunch of cilantro
- on 16oz can whole tomatoes
- one can of El Pato tomato sauce
- One bunch of garlic (or more if you like it- we like lots)
- Some spicy pepper seeds for a little kick
- Salt and pepper to taste

Just put it all in the processor and blend it. If there is too much, do it in 2 loads and combine all in a bowl when you are finished.

Laterally Speaking

The cold weather is nearing, and we will be taking you to the next level by preparing you for winter sports! Whether it be skiing moguls, ice skating, or snowboarding, we want to prepare your legs and upper body for all that good stuff! We'll also teach proprioceptive methods so you can handle the cold, slippery conditions around town.

Look for more lateral movements during warmups to strengthen your ankles, knees, and hips. Soon you'll be able to hit the slopes for an entire day, and still have energy for more!

Who's up for an FCF Ski/Snowboard trip?!

The Moment (Some Of) You Have Been Waiting For

The FCF Endurance Program is about to launch!

Planning on joining the Endurance Program? Got a race or event you'd like to train for? Just want to know what its all about? Adam, our certified Endurance coach, will be holding a one-hour kick-off information session this Saturday at 10am, with the first class on October the 5th at 6:30pm.

We'll be discussing exercise techniques, training options, scheduling, pricing, and the lot. Bring your questions and coffee, and stick around for the 11am CrossFit class if you'd like!

Need some events to train for? Here's a few to look into:

10/30 - King County Cyclocross (cross-country bike racing)
11/13 - Winter Pineapple Classic (5k run with obstacles)
11/27 - Seattle Marathon 5k (5k run/walk)
11/28 - Seattle Marathon Full & Half (26.2k run/walk, 13.1k run/walk)
12/19 - 12ks of Christmas (12k run/walk, 5k run/walk)

And we are pumped for the 2011 Seattle Tough Mudder!

Monthly program cost will be $40 and requires the participant to be exercising 3x/week or Unlimited CrossFit. This includes skill training, additional programmed workouts, and will prepare you for any upcoming race you choose!

Weekend Reading

Here are some interesting reads that I've wanted to share:
  • Adventures in Progress ponders Will 2011 Be the Year of Minimalist Footwear? I would say that the Minimalist/Barefoot movement is definitely making an impact. Just look at the popularity of the Five Fingers and the Inov-8 230s. We have about 10 athetes wearing the Fivers and 15 people wearing the Inov-8s (including your trainers) and everyone LOVES how they feel. I've also recommended Onitsuka Tigers and of course the Converse Chuck Taylors. I've also previously mentioned the upcoming Vibram + Merrell collaboration. Shoes matter.
