Being a 13 year Barista veteran, I can pretty much look at a person and know what they want to drink. The skinny vanilla latte guy is usually a businessman who is new to ordering specialty coffee drinks. My theory is the skinny vanilla latte order was originally his girlfriends drink so it is all he knows. The more comfortable the businessman gets with ordering, the less girly his drink gets. The evolution of the businessman coffee drinker usually starts with the skinny vanilla latte, then a regular latte no flavor, then an americano. My favorite customer profiling is the big, burly construction worker dude who always, without fail, orders the biggest flavored mocha they can get, with extra whip cream, of course.
